A Prayerful Rhythm
Today, I feel prompted to share a perspective on prayer that has been deeply meaningful in my life. Since around 2001, I’ve followed the prayer pattern of Moms in Prayer, an international organization I discovered when my firstborn, Miriam, was in elementary school. Their approach to prayer has become a foundational part of my life, and the prayer guides I share are modeled after their beautiful pattern.
This week, I was so encouraged to stumble upon a book by Ruth Chou Simons, Pilgram: 25 Ways God’s Character Leads Us Onward, that focuses on the character of God. To me, it reads like a devotional—centering my heart and mind on the Lord. The illustrations are breathtaking, filled with scenes from nature that stir the soul and remind me of places I’ve been or hope to visit one day.
The photo I shared above is from my Thursday group’s visit to the Creation Museum in Kentucky—a stunning place full of reminders of our faithful God.
When I focus on His character, I find myself truly living out the call to “fix our eyes on Jesus” from Hebrews 12:2. Month after month, as I meditate on one attribute of God at a time, I realize how many Scriptures have moved from simply being familiar to being hidden in my heart. I don’t set out to memorize them intentionally (though I think that’s wonderful too), but the daily rhythm of writing a verse or two as I praise God makes it happen naturally. Often, even the Bible reading plan I’m following aligns perfectly with the attribute of the month—something only the Holy Spirit could orchestrate!
Recently, a dear friend and I prayed together for our mutual needs. We admitted how easy it is to minimize our own struggles, knowing others may be carrying heavier burdens. But here’s the truth, friend: our God is big enough to carry every single heartache, pain, and fear—no matter the size. He doesn’t want us to hold back. He welcomes every prayer, every cry, every whispered plea. And He invites us to ask friends to pray with us, too.
Because I’ve spent years meditating on who God is—day after day, one attribute at a time—I know these truths deep in my soul. And when life throws me a curveball and I miss my quiet time in the morning, I find myself praying, “Lord, don’t let me miss anything You have in mind for me today.”
I recently read a wise quote from Amy Davis: “The goal is connection.” (You can listen to here and learn more here.) I often write that phrase across the top of my journal or calendar:
“The goal is connection to the Lord.”
That’s really the heart of it all: finding a daily rhythm that keeps us connected to Him. Here is the link to your April Prayer Guide for a gentle structure to guide your time with Him.
If any of these practices or tools find their way into your life, I consider it a joy and an honor. There are no “new” ideas—we all learn from each other. So many have poured into me, and it’s my joy to pass those blessings along. And if someone comes to mind while you’re reading this, please feel free to share it with them. That would mean the world to me. May your prayers draw you close, and may your connection to the Lord grow richer every day. ❤

️Book Update 📚I’ve officially finished the Letter to My Reader and the Introduction—a small but meaningful milestone! Next up? Choosing the title and cover. 😅 That part feels big… maybe even a little final—especially when the title might still change (again). But it’s all part of the process, right? Feel free to email me about your opinions of the cover if you didn’t do that already. (See the pics below). Progress is slower than I’d like (life and responsibilities don’t pause!), but I’m reminding myself what a privilege it is to even be on this journey. I truly appreciate your prayers as I keep moving forward, one small step at a time. I’ll keep you posted.
Much love,
Bonnie
