Noticing Where God is at Work

Hello friends,

We aren’t frozen here in Mt. Pleasant, and I hope you aren’t either. Watching the snow fall last weekend felt almost miraculous—quiet, beautiful, and unexpected. It was as if God gently reminded us to slow down and notice. For a few days, our ordinary surroundings were transformed, and all we had to do was pay attention.

That sense of noticing has been closely tied to my word for the year: consistent. I’ve realized how easy it is for me to be consistent in habits I enjoy—and how much more intentional I must be in the ones that shape me in areas I need. January gave me a chance to see where consistency came naturally and where it requires renewed focus as I move into February.

Prayer is one area where consistency usually comes more easily for me, though it doesn’t always look the same. Sometimes it’s with my prayer guide in hand, sometimes while walking in nature, sometimes in the quiet of my bed or the stillness of my car. Yet even with a strong prayer habit, busy moments—like preparing for a snowstorm or traveling home after time with family—can cause me to rush ahead without pausing to pray.

God is not distant or detached—He is our friend, and He invites us into what He is already doing. When we slow down, stay prayerfully attentive, and remain consistent in seeking Him, we begin to notice the small but holy moments woven into our days.

Flint and I have been talking about these moments lately and calling them our “treasures.” They often show up quietly—in conversations, interruptions, answered prayers, or unexpected invitations. When we take time to share them and celebrate them with the people involved, our perspective shifts. Life feels less rushed and more intentional, less ordinary and more sacred.

My prayer for you is that as you move through the days ahead, you would notice where God is at work and choose—again and again—to join Him there. There is a treasure waiting in each day when our hearts are aligned with His.

Firm Foundation: Resilience After Trauma

A faith-centered book about healing, rebuilding, and resilience after trauma, is written through the metaphor of restoring a home after a storm. It's my story and the type of book I wanted at the time I needed it.

I’ve completed the final edits needed before formatting, which is the stage that makes the manuscript begin to look like a real book. Now I wait for the publisher to complete their part of the process.

While I wait, I have a few important details to wrap up—finalizing the back cover copy and writing the author bio that will appear on the back cover. There are so many small pieces that go into bringing a book to life.

On My Nightstand are these three:

Awaken My Heat by Emily Wilson Hussem - This is intended to be read slowly—one chapter each week over the 52 weeks of the year. It’s reflective, prayerful, and well-suited for a steady, unhurried rhythm.

Uneasy Street by Becky Wade - A light-hearted work of fiction with a strong plot and genuinely likeable characters who are wrestling with their faith in realistic ways—just as we often do in real life.

Experiencing God - Book. This book has deeply shaped the way I look for where God is already at work. In addition to the book, there is also a Bible study and daily devotional available.

As we enter the month of February in slow motion, consider staying there. There is peace in moving slowly, and fewer distractions pulling us away from being consistent in prayer, in reading God’s Word, and in noticing where He is at work. I look forward to hearing your testimonies of these very things.
